How A Mayfly Spends Its Day

Mayflies live the most thrilling life in animal kingdom because they literally have only 1 day to live. A Mayfly’s day starts with males hovering above the water where the females come flying just to mate. The male grabs a passing female with its front legs and the pair mate in the flight. When they're done, the male releases the female and she slowly descends to the surface of water. On the surface she lie motionless, with her wings flat this is when she lays her eggs (50 to 10,000 eggs). After laying eggs, either the female mayfly dies or becomes a food for the fishes under water. The male Mayfly flies away to a nearby land where he also dies in a few hours after mating.
