Merry day after Christmas, everyone! This year, Beano Claus has gifted to you the knowledge of his Game of The Year for 2023, a monster-collecting indie darling called "Cassette Beasts" with a poster girl who's primed and ready for Super Smash Bros! How would she work? Well, watch the video and find out, silly! Spirit Explanations: -Eugene: Him appearing as Link is a reference to his partner Clocksley's evolved form, Robindam, who dresses in green and uses a bow and arrow has his main weapon. Perhaps to further this theme, Bow items can spawn on very high. He appears on Dracula Castle as a reference to the vampire-like Landkeepers that Eugene tries to stop over the course of the game. -Felix: That Inkling costume looks a bit like Felix himself and Inkling's f-smash is a paint brush stroke which references his main hobby as an artist. This is also why the Pictochat 2 stage was picked. Mushroom items spawning on high reference his partner, Brushroom. -Meredith: There are unfortunately no electric cat characters in Smash so Pikachu the electric mouse will have to suffice as a reference to her partner Kittely and she's in that costume because it sort of reminds me of Meredith's fashion sense. I wanted a mall-like stage for her because her dedicated quest takes place inside of the Falldown Mall location. All item spawns reference her Lightning theming. -Viola: Her appearance as pink lady Corrin references her Spirouette form which possesses a variety of dance-based watery moves. I chose Pirate Ship as her stage because she came to the island of New Wirral (where Cassette Beasts takes place) via ship and that's where her dedicated quest takes place too. -Barkley: I feel like I shouldn't have to explain why a dog is being portrayed by a dog here but the freezies are because Barkley's bootleg Pombomb transformation has the ice typing and it takes place on Summit not just because of the ice but also because you first run into Barkley while scaling a mountain. Atop that mountain, you fight the monster, Averevoir, which is similar to the Condor associated with this Ice Climbers stage. Although since that Condor doesn't actually appear on the stage without the Ice Climbers' involvement, perhaps the Tiki Assist Trophy can be a frequent spawn here instead. -Sunny: While not literally a zombie, Sunny has been brainwashed by the Landkeepers which has caused her to maintain a zombie-like appearance and mannerisms. However, it's through her friends in the bright and colorful hub area of Harbortown (which is why I picked Delfino Plaza for her stage) that she's able to find her own sense of style and personality again. -Ianthe and Wilma: This married duo serves as the final challenge for the Ranger Captain quest line and, as such, present a rather difficult double battle for players. Giant Metal Bowser represents Ianthe in her Gearyu form and Giant Sirenade is for Wilma as Decibelle (Sirenade's evolved form). Given that New Wirral Park is where players first meet Ianthe, I thought it a fitting location for this battle and it's a stamina match because that's technically what all Ranger Captain matches are in Cassette Beasts. -Wallace: While Wallace himself is a dead-ringer for Builder Mario, his actual strategy in battle revolves around transforming into members of the Traffikrab line (hence the crab-filled Mario Bros stage) and setting up walls to protect himself (hence the Steve favoring neutral special). Perhaps the Steve should be invisible so it looks like Wallace is setting up the walls himself and perhaps this should be a stamina battle too for logical consistency with the Ianthe and Wilma battle... this is why I've never included Spirit Battles in my Smash videos before. I always second guess myself with them. -Kuneko: A purple cat playing a purple cat should be pretty obvious but the heavy winds thing is to reference Kuneko's Air typing. The Yggdrasi's Altar stage was chosen for her because, as part of Felix's quest line, players must bring her to four different elemental altars spread across the map plus her whole theming is very JRPG and anime inspired which works well with a Dragon Quest stage. -Morgante: Morgante is an Archangel with light powers and she's also massive, hence the giant metal Palutena. The Mementos stage captures similar vibes to the creepy subway platforms where all Archangel battles take place. These battles are a bit different than other in-game battles as all Archangels have a super attack that's guaranteed to go off after a certain number of turns, hence the FS meter on and filling quickly for Morgante. This should probably also be a Stamina battle. 00:00 Intro and Justification 02:09 Base Concept and Shared Moves 04:40 Sirenade 06:05 Malchemy 08:06 Capricorpse 10:38 Up Special and Taunts 13:47 Final Smash and Victory Poses 16:05 Alternate Costumes 17:53 Home Stage and Classic Mode Route 18:53 Spirit Battles 20:38 Outro and Credits
