Lemang Daun Lerek Greenwood is a family business headed by the extremely friendly and welcoming Mr Mohd Arifin. They produce hundreds of lemang sticks daily even though it's traditionally eaten during Ramadan. They are very popular! Indonesians also love lemang. In Thailand they call it 'Khao Lam'. How to make lemang? The recipe is very simple but it takes a lot of skill to get right. This place inserts lerek leafs into the bamboo sticks then pours coconut milk and glutinous rice into it. They say the lemang tastes different depending on who does the pouring. The most skilled people get the ratio of coconut milk to rice perfect! It is cooked over intense heat for 2.5 hours.
