🌾 The Cornerstone of Cambodia: Agriculture Agriculture remains a vital pillar of Cambodia's economy and society, deeply intertwined with the lives of its rural population. Despite the structural shift toward garment manufacturing and services, the sector contributes significantly to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)—around 22% in recent years—and is a major employer, providing livelihoods for nearly 50% of all households and engaging over a third of the total workforce. Major Crops and Production Rice is the undisputed king of Cambodian agriculture, serving as the main staple crop, a primary source of rural income, and the largest agricultural export. Shutterstock The country has a surplus of paddy rice and is globally recognized for its aromatic rice varieties, such as the award-winning Phka Romduol. However, Cambodia's agricultural landscape is diversifying rapidly beyond rice. Key cash and industrial crops include: Cassava: The second-largest agricultural crop by area, it has become a major export, often processed into starch. Cambodia is now one of the world's largest cassava producers. Cashew Nuts: Production has grown significantly, making Cambodia a major global producer, although most are currently exported unprocessed. Rubber: Cultivated on large-scale commercial plantations. Fruits: Mangoes (especially the Keo Romeat variety), bananas, and coconuts are expanding for both domestic consumption and export markets. Spices: High-value exports like Kampot Pepper hold a Geographical Indication (GI) status. Most agricultural holdings are relatively small, with the majority of farmers engaging in a mix of crop cultivation and livestock/poultry rearing. Traditional rain-fed farming is still prevalent, but there is an increasing push for modern practices, mechanization, and improved irrigation, especially for dry-season crops. #Cambodiaagriculture #Thecambosroksrae #familyvlog #lifeisbutadream #desiviilagelifetstyle #farmers #shortvideo #dogcute
