Torsö is Vänern´s largest island (6203 ha) and is located in Mariestad Archipelago (Municipality of Mariestad) in the eastern part of the lake. The island actually consists of the two islands of Torsö and Fågelö, which have grown together because of the thickening that occurred in the late 1800s. This was very clear during the big flood of winter 2000/2001 when the former seabed was threatened by the water. There are many bathing beaches on Torsö and you can go here by boat and by car. In November 1994, the Torsö bridge was completed, which runs in a half-arch from Sundsörn on the mainland to Torsö. The bridge has a sail-free height of 18 m. The bridge replaced 19 November 1994 ferry traffic that has been running since 1932. The locals is called "Torsövargar" ("Torsö wolves").
