Custard recipe from medieval England. This recipe is from around 1450, from the manuscript Harleian Manuscript 4016, which was later added to the book Two Fifteenth Century Cookbooks. An interesting fact is that although modern custard recipes tend to include vanilla, it wasn't introduced to Europe until the 1520s, since it comes from the Americas. Ingredients: Flour 40g Milk 500ml 2 egg yolks Sugar 50g Pinch of salt Recipe: mix the milk and the flour until there are no more lumps, then move the mixture to a pan using a strainer to remove any remaining lumps. Bring it to a boil in medium heat (it should take around 10 minutes), constantly stirring so the flour doesn't stick to the bottom. Once it boils, remove from the heat and let it cool for around 30 minutes. Meanwhile, beat the egg yolks with salt, and then add them to pot. Mix everything and let it simmer for a few minutes, then add the sugar and serve. Instagram: / cookinghistoryofficial Song: Homie Cat - Downtown Cafe
