Oxcroft Colliery Derbyshire. Explore of Colliery and Disused Railway Branch 00:00 Intro 01:05 Disused Seymour Junction & Sidings 06:24 Oxcroft Junction 08:50 Oxcoft Colliery Branch 12:32 Former Railway Sidings & Disposal Point 17:53 Old Tramway & Conveyor 23:17 Oxcroft Colliery Site Remains In this video, we explore the former Oxcroft Colliery site, conveyor belt route and the disused railway line to the nearby Seymour Junction & sidings. We are able to see and document the route of the coal all the way from the coal leaving the ground to leaving by train. We see colliery remains, the old conveyor and tramway route, disposal and stocking grounds and finally the disused line. We start in the sidings at Seymour Junction near Staveley (on the outskirts of Chesterfield). Once a thriving complex of railway lines and sidings that handled the traffic from many of the local collieries. These days, Seymour is a collection of abandoned sleepers and other railway infrastructure that is quicky being consumed by woodland. Telegraph pole, signals and light gantries still stand amongst the trees. After a short walk, the line to Clowne diverges at Oxcroft Junction and we take the right fork towards Oxcroft. The disused railway line hasnt been used since around 2007 when the disposal point was disused. As we walk the line, we see the old bridges and cuttings. Once passing under the M1, the trackbed opens out as we start our approach to the old railway yard. The are works to reclaim this land and on the day we visiting, we couldn't travel any more down the track bed and sidings due to heavy machinery operating on the site. However we were able to take a different route into the neighbouring woods and follow a path alongside the stocking site (now a solar farm) and see in to the former railway yard. Nothing seems to remain of this area, where at one time there would be rapid loading equipment for the trains. Although Oxcroft has ben closed since the 1970s, the railway entrance from the colliery has been utilised as a disposal point for sorting and processing coal from other collieries. This continued well in to the 2000s before finally being abandoned. As we cross Mill Lane on the outskirts of Stanfree, this is where the history of the colliery really comes alive. On the opposite site of the road we see a large bridge abutment. This was from a former tramway that ran into the railway yard from the colliery further up the hill. In later years this was a covered coneyor belt like seen in many collieries. We enter the woods and follow the route of the tramway/belt and find left over items dating back many years. The route then passed under Clowne Road, but this is as far as we can follow it. We have to go off-piste to discover the remaining section to the top of the colliery. In the woods at the colliery site, we can see remains of old wagons, of tubs cascading down the hillside. As well as brickwork, cabling and other colliery related artifacts and remains. A big thanks to Paul for this great knowledge on this video. **Other seymour related videos** Seymour Junction to Bolsover - • Derbyshire Disused Railway Explore - Seymo...
