This is the virtual performance; second movement of my 'Requiem for the Living' orchestration, entitled 'Vanitas Vanitatum', as per the original. It follows from the first movement, but deals more potently with the vanity of existence itself. It is a departure from the traditional liturgical text, a personal addition of Forrest. It is intended to portray human earthly suffering, referencing Ecclesiastes and Job. There is also allusions to the Dies Irae [Day of Wrath] text. The text is given below. The sung Latin is given first, and translations follow. The choir in this recording is from a virtual sample library so there is no diction present. Latin [sung]: Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas! Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem. Lacrimosa, et locutus est, pereat dies in qua natus sum. Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas! Kyrie Eleison. Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem. English [translation]: Vanity of vanities, all is vanity! (from Ecclesiastes) Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest. Full of tears, (from the Dies Irae) he said, Let the day perish wherein I was born. (from Job 3:2-3) Vanity of vanities, all is vanity! Lord, have mercy. Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest.
