The GAP - Brecon Beacons July 2019 - Epic trail, views, climbs and DH! (Full route)

The GAP is an epic MTB trail in The Brecon Beacons that I'd been wanting to tick off my "Trails to do" list for quite a while. #thegap #breconbeacons #mtb We (Matt.C, Darren M and myself) started early on July 3rd 2019 in the centre of Brecon town. We parked in the main carpark on Canal road near to the Theatre, which was great as there are toilets and a cafe to stock up on energy drinks, snacks and caffeine! It was 24 degrees C and we had 4 hours of long climbs, epic views and fast, rocky downhills to conquer! The route is near Pen y Fan and at 886m, it's the highest point in southern Britain. There's around 1,000m of ascent and descent, with a few really great techie sections to keep you challenged! From Talybont-on-Usk (Landranger 161/SO115225), take the Taff Trail SW into the forest, leaving it quite soon to climb due S (signed Brin Ore), all the way up onto the ridge at SO102176. Now follow the main track SW up through a spectacular saddle. Immediately after this, break WSW onto a boggy track that becomes rocky and drops to the Pentywn Reservoir. Climb NW on the road, then N onto a track at SO035173. Take this to the Gap and down to farm buildings at Bailea Farm. Take lanes E to the BW at SO059245, and take this to Llanfrynach.
