This film follows Ai Weiwei on his research trip to Kyiv Oblast in June 2025, documenting the development of his new commission, Three Perfectly Proportioned Spheres and Camouflage Uniforms Painted White. Traveling to meet his collaborators and to witness the impact of the full-scale invasion on daily life in Ukraine, Ai spends time with metalworkers at HOW Productions, meets seamstresses and drone-makers at the female veterans’ NGO VETERANKA, visits agricultural regions and homes scarred by Russian attacks, and learns from Ukrzaliznytsia how infrastructure has adapted to sustain the war effort. At Kyiv Station, on Platform 1, he encounters soldiers parting from their families and the wounded returning, their futures irrevocably transformed. Interweaving these experiences with Ai’s reflections on art and human rights, the film offers a rare insight into the creative process of an artist who insists on the responsibility of art to record, to resist, and to bear witness.
