From Reef Breaks to Resort Pools through Rough Seas

After soaking in every ounce of magic at Frigates — from scoring some incredible waves 🏄‍♂️🏄‍♀️ to snorkeling with turtles, vibrant fish, and thriving coral — it’s time for us aboard Alivo to move on. With the weather shifting and the reef anchorage growing more exposed, we point our bow toward Momi Bay in search of more protection from the wind and swell. But Fiji has other plans. A small craft advisory crackles over the VHF, and the seas quickly turn sloppy. After reefing the main, tightening up the autopilot, and doing all the little sailor tricks to stay safe, we push through the rough ride and finally slip into the calm of Momi Bay. The next morning brings hopes of new surf, but the hunt turns into a total strikeout. No waves… but plenty of adventure. We take the dinghy deep into the mangroves — brushing past tight turns, shallow spots, and a dramatic dead end (thankfully without popping the dinghy!). With no surf mission success, they clean the salt off their sailing bodies and attempt to sneak into the nearby Marriott Resort. To their surprise… they’re welcomed! Pools, restaurants, and even a beautiful birthday song sung by locals cap off an unexpectedly luxurious day. The next sail brings us toward Denarau — our first true civilization after many weeks off-grid — where our torn headsail needs repairs. The moment we step into a grocery store, our eyes light up: cheese! fresh vegetables! fruit! more cheese! After a long-awaited provisioning session, we ready the boat for their next adventure… Next episode: Musket Cove ⛵🌴
