Rödhamn was an important stopping place since the Middle Ages and thousands of ships managed to anchor there over the centuries waiting for better weather. Most obviously, in 1758, a Tavern was founded on the island of Gloskär in the Rödhamn island group. It offered not only drink and food but also accommodation until the 20th century. The successful Tavern lost its customers as the ships got engines and no longer needed a waiting place. Tavern shut down in 1930. Almost a hundred years later, the groove has been recovered. The well-known café built in a beach shed at the port now also sells food and drinks. You should also visit Finland's only original radio beacon, which operated between 1937 and 1970. The radio beacon house, which has been converted into a museum, also tells about the work of the pilots who lived on the island from 1818 to the end of the 1920s. Today Rödhamn offer showers, food, drinks and dishwashing place and a bookable sauna to sailors. Rödön, an island next to Rödhamn, you can find sailors' rock carvings, a troy town, a chapel from historical times and more.
