VISITING THE MUSEUM OF MEMORY AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN SANTIAGO, CHILE

On May 21, 2007 in her annual address to the National Congress, President Michelle Bachelet announced the creation of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Chile. On January 11, President Michelle Bachelet led the official ignauguration of this bicentennial project. The event drew approximately three thousand people, including representatives of human rights was inaugurated on January 11, 2010. Its origins lie in the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, The Rettig Report, the construction of memorials implemented by President Ricardo Lagos and President Michelle Bachelet´s decision to respond to the demands of family organizations and human rights organizations whose archives were declared Memory of the World by UNESCO.
