Pretext - "Floodgate" Official Music Video Artist City, State, Country: Copenhagen, Denmark Artist Bio: Pretext is a Rock/Metal band based in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2015, three engineering students met in campus and started a rock band, it didn’t take long for the innocent rock-oriented project to morph into something raw, something heavy and Pretext was born in 2016. The three members are of Danish, Icelandic and Iraqi nationalities. The members different backgrounds can be heard in the music and lyrics. The band often addresses political and social issues from a personal perspective. The band's first album, 'The General Conflagration', can be described as a blend of thrash and hardcore with some power-violence elements thrown in for good measure, while avoiding sticking to the retro crossover sound. The new EP, 'Speak No Ill of the Dead', has pounding rhythms led by middle eastern sounds with addition of an Arabic female singer on several songs the bands adds a unique and captivating grooves. A short eight minute documentary ‘’Beyond Hometown Baghdad’’ was made about the band, centered around guitarist/vocalist Adel Haley upbringing in Iraq and using music as cathartic outlet to survive during the war time. The documentary already had a screening in Copenhagen to a sold-out venue, it was available online in January 2019. The trio has played dozens of concerts in Copenhagen, including Roskilde Festival 2019, High Voltage, Rust, S-Huset, Kulturhavn festival and RUSK festival 2016 in Beta. The live shows are frantic bursts of energy filled with headbanging, fist pumping and circle pits. Pretext entered Death Island Studio in late 2018 and recorded their debut album with producer Marco Angioni. The band collaborated again with Marco to release their follow up EP.
