Ladies of Soul at City Park’s Thursdays @ Twilight Celebrating Mother’s Day - Smooth Jazz Sunday NOLA Resistance Record Release Honors Norman Robinson There is so much joy in Episode 10. As the Posse is becoming more comfortable with being on camera they are having even more fun. In this episode's three segments, we party at city park, celebrate Mother’s Day at another Smooth Jazz Sunday and the final and longest segment celebrates the release of “Crescent City Connection” by the NOLA Resistance, while honoring one of the best national journalists who came home to be our beloved longtime evening anchor for WDSU News, channel 6 in New Orleans. Segment One: One of the Posse’s favorite outings are the Thursdays at Twilight series at the Pavilion of Two Sisters in City Park’s Botanic Gardens. There are several acts that we enjoy every year at the 6-8pm concerts. Check out City Parks website for calendar of events: https://neworleanscitypark.org/calendar/ This Thursday it was “The Ladies of Soul” which at this year’s show consisted of Rechell Cook, Naydja Cojoe, Jus’ Tanzy, and Dané (Sharon Martin was traveling) They rocked the place and the several hundred golden agers, some of them platinum, if you know what I mean. You have to see this racially mixed crowd party so hard. This concert format provides a nice intermission (without a DJ) when people mix and chat. We see friends there all the time. Two pieces of advice. The calendar is set in early spring and the shows we like sell out quickly and while the shows start at 6, the doors open at 5. If you have a ticket, you’ll get a seat, but get there too late and it won’t be one of the best. Actually, we like settling in at the back, more leg room and a dance space is right there. Segment Two: Since they both fall on Sundays, every year we get to celebrate both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at a Smooth Jazz Sunday event. Six of us in the Posse have season tickets, so every Month we have a party appointment. Special days like this mean more food! Clark Knighten and his 4x4 Connection Band are like a human jukebox. That is why this show format works out so well. Clark, Snap, Shannon and Wiz can back up anybody, as well as do features themselves. You’ll get a taste of Wiz and his amazing guitar licks. You’ll also get a taste of violinist Dominique Hammons, who was the featured act that Sunday, engaging the room with his instrumental versions of familiar favorites. Segment Three is more than entertainment: Matt Dillon produces great shows and this record release event for "Crescent City Connection" that included honoring the one and only Norman Robinson, was another of his sold out high energy events. NOLA Resistance is a collaboration of a group of top shelf musicians, some of the very the best New Orleans has to offer. Every musician onstage was a standout, as also were the vocalists who came to the stage. You will see that the show was extremely entertaining, and the kitchen was right on at Sweet Lorraine’s. I really do have a thing about enjoying food, wine, music and good company at the same time. I’m spoiled. You’ll witness that I had the Shrimp Pasta. (almost ate it all before the shot) One of the highlights of the evening was when retired news cameraman Willie Wilson did a succinct yet heartwarming tribute/ roast of Norman Robinson, for whom Willie did all camera work in the field. You could feel the love, respect and camaraderie between these two black pioneers on TV news in New Orleans. It was kind of universal that night at Sweet Lorraine’s, as even the rowdies at the bar quieted themselves to hear. I so hope that we live life to be able to have a good time and enjoy it until we can't... and then enjoy what we still can.
