A Review of the Lekato WS-90 Wireless System, by Monty Zoomer

This video represents something of a diversion from the “Norm” for Monty. It’s not a song, nor is it a parody, nor is it even anything musical; it is a review of an electrical gizmo, a guitar “Accessory” in fact, which Monty has found to be dead handy. When performing, I use my Laney A1+ Acoustic amplifier as a monitor, and take an output to the PA system. With its ‘Kick-back’ cabinet, it is ideal for this purpose. I use it in conjunction with A Line-6 G30 wireless unit, and for the type of venues that we play, this system works well. There is one drawback. Indeed, the performer is free to wander about without the hindrance of an instrument cable, but the receiver is mains powered, therefore there we have yet one more length of cable cluttering up the performance area. The issue of the transmitter being clipped to a belt or guitar strap can also be a problem, especially for the forgetful amongst us. In order to be totally free to wander, and have less cables and leads to bother about, a unit that is entirely reliant on battery power, would be quite useful. There are many such devices on the market which will function with electric guitars (Passive pick-ups), but there are not many which manufacturers claim will work with an electric/acoustic guitar (Active pick-ups)). The manufacturers of the LEKATO WS-90, however, claim that their wireless device will work for players using guitars having active pick-ups. The WS-90 works well with my 1998 electric/acoustic Washburn Festival EA20. This then, is the story of the truth, as observed by Monty Zoomer. It is to be noted that Monty is not on the end of any sort of backhander from the manufacturers of this LEKATO device, or other identical, but differently brand-marked, units. This review has just been put together because Monty thought that it might benefit other acoustic/electric players who were looking for just this sort of gizmo. He also wanted to see if such a video could be put together with very basic and minimalistic equipment.
