"Purity" by Jackson Pearce. Books for Teens: 60second Book Review by Jenny Sawyer. http://goo.gl/rpvF7J In "Purity" by Jackson Pearce, Shelby's got a problem. Before her mom died, she made Shelby promise her three things. But the three things, it turns out, kind of contradict each other. Like how is Shelby supposed to always listen to her father, but also live without restraint? And how is she supposed to do that now, especially when he's asked her to participate in some awful purity ball, where she'll have to promise to abstain from premarital sex? Thus begins Shelby's quest to lose her virginity before the ball--one failed, awkward teenage guy encounter at a time. Along the way, she struggles with questions about faith, wrestles with growing complications in her relationship with her best (guy) friend, and starts to get to know her father a little better. Some funny moments here, but this book's predictability made the read somewhat unsatisfying, and Shelby a more cookie-cutter protagonist than she could have been.
