For MATT RILEY, undertaking the short film THE OPERATOR was a means to a noble end; a genre-themed examination, through metaphor and symbolism and with a single cast member conveying existential anxiety, of just how desperate the simple act of living in this world has become. "It is an allegory for my own experience of learning about the true extent of the climate crisis, and how helpless and ill equipped a person can feel," says Riley, a DOP by trade who steps into the director's chair for The Operator. "It explores the notion of "Climate Grief" as the world heads towards a series of climate and ecological tipping points."
