There is a common mistake that many kettlebell enthusiasts make in their TGU, one that makes performing heavy TGUs quite difficult. The hardest part of the TGU (for most people) is the punch-up - getting from the start position in supine up on the High Post position up on your elbow. Typically, if the athlete can get to high post, the rest is a piece of cake. I know I am that way. The mistake that most athletes make is they leave the bell directly over the shoulder as they attempt to punch up into Low Post. This makes the bell feel incredibly heavy, often limiting the bell that they can use. The trick is to allow the bell to drift subtly and slightly toward the midline right before your punch up. Doing this, shortens the moment arm the bell has over the body, thereby greatly reducing the torque against which the athlete has to work. Essentially, this makes the bell feel much lighter. While this tip may be subtle, it has a significant impact on how heavy the bell feels. Once you get it down, my guess is that you will improve your 1RM in the TGU by at least 2 bells (8kg) instantly.
