Statewide Biobank Seminar Series - Quantifying the impact of biobanks and cohort studies

We welcome you to join us on Wednesday 27th August, 2025, 11am-12pm About the topic: This seminar presents a large-scale quantitative analysis of biobanks and cohort studies, mapping their contributions to research, innovation, and public health, as well as their usage and collaboration patterns. Drawing on over 200,000 scientific articles and other records, we introduce new metrics—such as the Biobank Impact Factor—to evaluate how factors like openness, data quality, and collaboration shape the scientific influence of biobanks, often overlooked by traditional citations. About our guest speaker: Rodrigo Dorantes Gilardi is an associate research scientist at the Center for Complex Network Research (CCNR) at Northeastern University, where he studies topics on the frontier between science of science and biomedical research. His research specializes in the impact of tools and technologies in the advancement of scientific discoveries in biomedicine, such as biobanks, specialized software, or lab techniques.
