Anglers of a certain vintage will spot my homage to some of the inspirational writers and broadcasters of my youth. A time when fishing was all about the pleasure of taking part and not the kudos of becoming a legend in one's own little world. So I take my metaphorical hat off in the credits to Jack Hargreaves' Out of Town programme about rural life (just as it was dying out I suppose) with the music supporting the credits. The fake (this is a modern film after all) lino cuts a la 'BB' and my much thumbed copy of 'Rough river and Small stream fishing' by David Carl Forbes who sadly died too young. All of them contributed to my enduring love of fishing in a way that modern journalism probably can't, rooted as it is in these less innocent times. We were truly a lucky generation.
