After 2 years of agony, I'm finally done with this nightmare of a level. I first tried to grind this level back when it was uploaded back in July of 2021, little did I realize what I was getting myself into. Verdant is a level that requires incredibly fast inputs at all times and with my sluggish fingers, this proved to be almost impossible. Throughout the months of July to September of 2021 I tried desperately to make any sort of progress at all, but to no avail. After I saw JC beat it just under 2 weeks after the level was uploaded I accepted that I was not capable of beating such input intensive levels and called it quits. My departure from Verdant didn't mark the end of my SMM2 journey though and I continued to grind many hard levels that didn't require such fast inputs. I was moving along quite nicely until I attempted to grind Blades of Forsaken in 2022. BoF is a level similar to Verdant, it requires very fast inputs while also being very short in length. This level scared me right from the start and I ended up getting destroyed by it, just like Verdant. This experience reminded me of Verdant and I booted up the level to see if I was able to make anymore progress now that it had been awhile since I played it and I had improved a lot those past few months. To my suprise, I was able to do the entirety of the first and second section, which was much better than my progress before. The last section was still way out of my skill range, I couldn't even get close to hitting any of it after spending around 30 hours trying. My thumb was way too slow. So I gave up Verdant again, but the fact that I was able to do the first and second section gave me hope that I might be able to gain enough strength in my thumb to be able to do the third section one day. In January of 2023, I returned to BoF to see if my thumb had strengthened enough to finish it off, and it actually had. I was able to hit every section without too much struggle. So I attempted to grind it and after a very painful grind I was able to pull through. This clear is what really raised my hopes for Verdant. It taught me that it was possible to train my thumb to be faster and stronger and if I kept grinding levels that required my thumb to do a lot of work, I would eventually reach the strength to clear Verdant. So, throughout the rest of 2023, I grinded a ton of juggle levels to try and increase the strength in my thumb. November 4th, 2023 I returned to Verdant with a totally new mindset. I knew that I was going to beat this level no matter what this time, even if my thumb couldn't handle it. I was finally able to do the last section and worked on getting consistency with all the other parts. It all seemed to be going really well until I hit a wall after getting my first few runs to the last section. Every run I got to the end exhausted my thumb beyond belief, It seemed like I just didn't have what it took, even after all this time of building up strength. Each day my thumb would get increasingly more worn out and during the last few days of my grind, progress came to a hault. Not only my right thumb, but my left thumb was preventing me from making any progress anymore. This almost resulted in me quitting the grind for good, but I didn't want to accept that fate just yet. During my last day of grinding, I had possibly the worst session I've ever had on a level. All of my runs were dying because my thumbs were just too exhausted and I was losing hope with every dead run. I got stuck in the first section for the last hour of my grind (a section I normally pass with close to 50% consistency) which completely destroyed me and I couldn't form a single positive thought in my head anymore. Everything was just telling me to quit and free myself from this nightmare of a level. But I hung on and my next run past the first section was the most magical thing I've ever seen in a video game. I expected to die instantly in section 2 and just stop for the day as I couldn't handle this anymore, but no, this run made it past section 2 and got to the last section, I realized this might be the last chance I have to beat the level and I focused with all of my might on hitting this last section for the final time, I arrived at my PB where my thumb gave out twice prior to this run and I was able to keep going. I have never felt such a surreal feeling as I did when I clutched out the last shell jump, spring throw, spring jump and beat the level. I could not believe it, it felt like a ridiculous dream that I would wake up from, wishing it was real. But it wasn't a dream, I actually beat the level, marking the end of a 2 year journey, after all hope was lost.
