Alpine A424 LMDh Raw Sounds - WEC 2025 Pre-Season Test at Monza! (4K - HQ Audio)

Guys, you can't imagine how much I missed this. It's been a really long time since I last recorded a test in such a calm atmosphere especially at Monza Circuit. I've already been there in the past few months after the racetrack was reopened, following renovation works that lasted almost a year, but I hadn't had the chance to roam freely like I did in the old days yet. This was also due to a forced closure of some internal public areas of the track as early as July 2023. What happened? Well, you can notice it from some of these clips. Just a couple of weeks after the WEC 6 Hours in July 2023 severe thunderstorms hit the area around Monza Circuit and a downburst caused thousands of trees to be uprooted in the 'upper area' of the track (Second Chicane - Lesmo 1 - Lesmo 2). That area of the park was closed for weeks and opened briefly only for the Italian GP weekend in September 2023. It was then restricted to the public again to continue the recovery from the natural disaster but then in late 2023 those mandatory renovation works started. Even if I went to the Monza Rally Show last December, I haven't had the opportunity to produce videos around the whole track until this Monday. Alpine Endurance Team organized a two-day test just ahead of the 2025 World Endurance Championship prologue and season opener in Qatar later this month. The occasion was used both to train the 6 official drivers (Paul -Loup Chatin, Charles Milesi and Ferdinand Habsburg on car number 35 and Mick Schumacher, Jules Gounon and Frédéric Makowiecki on the number 36) and to clock some miles on the two Alpine A424 LMDh cars. In fact for 2025 Alpine is using its first technical joker to make its engine more reliable and optimised. The Alpine A424 has been developed under the "Le Mans Daytona h" (LMDh) regulations which allows it to be fielded alongside Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) entries in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC or in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Compared to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) rule set, in which there's much more freedom in designing the car, LMDh teams are forced to rely on one of the 4 chassis manufacturers chosen by ACO and IMSA (Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and Oreca) in order to have a base from which to build their own vehicle. Alpine has chosen Oreca as their chassis supplier. The car is powered by 3.4-liter, single-turbocharged V6 engine by Mecachrome, called V634, which was originally developed (and is still used) for the F2 and F3 Championships in both turbo (for the former) and naturally-aspirated (for the latter) versions. For endurance use Alpine decided to opt for the turbocharged version of the Mecachrome, which has been modified and revised for the purpose. On the A424 the V6 is making 675 hp and has a redline of 9,000 rpm. Having never seen a F2 car live since they went turbo in 2018, for me this was the first time that I heard and recorded the turbo version of the Mecachrome in action. I must say that it's very particular and has such a pleasant tone compared to other V6s used in endurance racing. At first it vaguely reminded me of the single turbo flat-6 used by the Porsche 962 in IMSA but I noticed this similarity only rarely and only connected to the exhaust noise, when the A424 accelerates. But after a friend of mine pointed out that it sounds like a muffled GT3 Cup from the distance, now I can't get this thing out of my head haha It's just what I would expect a GT3 Cup to sound like if it were single turbo and kept its exhaust line.
