Has your doctor told you that your baby is in the breech position at 36 weeks? Don’t panic. In this video, I walk you through everything you need to know about External Cephalic Version — a safe, evidence-based procedure that could help turn your baby and give you the best chance of a normal vaginal delivery. 📌 KEY POINTS COVERED IN THIS VIDEO: ✅ ECV has a success rate of approximately 50% — and is even more likely to work if you have had a vaginal birth before ✅ ECV is routinely offered from 37 weeks of pregnancy — and from 36 weeks in women having their first baby ✅ A muscle-relaxing injection called a tocolytic is given before the procedure to improve success rates — this is supported by strong clinical evidence from the RCOG Green-top Guidelines ✅ Your baby’s heartbeat is continuously monitored on a CTG machine throughout the entire procedure ✅ The risk of needing an emergency caesarean section immediately after ECV is approximately 0.5% — which is why ECV is always performed in a hospital setting ✅ ECV is generally safe even if you have had one previous caesarean section ✅ ECV should NOT be performed if you have placenta praevia, recent vaginal bleeding, ruptured membranes, an abnormal CTG, or if you are carrying more than one baby ✅ Even if ECV is unsuccessful, less than 3–7% of babies will turn on their own after a failed attempt — so it is important to discuss your birth options with your doctor promptly ✅ If ECV is successful, there is only a very small 3% chance of the baby turning back to breech — so most successful ECVs stay head-down ✅ There is no scientific evidence that lying in a particular position or postural management alone helps the baby turn This video is for educational purposes only. This video does not replace a consultation with your own healthcare provider. Every pregnancy is unique — please discuss your individual options with your doctor or midwife before making any decisions. #mum2be #breechbaby #breech #externalcephalicversion #pregnancysafety #pregnancytips
