Altered Beast is a side scrolling beat 'em up game, ported onto the Sega Megadrive/Genesis from the original 1988 arcade game. The game was developed and published by Sega and released for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis in mid 1989 for North America, and in 1990 for Europe. The game was one of the first few titles released with the debut of the Sega Megadrive/Genesis console. Set in Ancient Greece, in a time when men were warriors and Gods ruled the world. A time of good against evil, a place of danger. The hero summoned from the dead by Zeus, is sent on a mission to rescue Zeus's daughter Athena from the ruler of the underworld, Neff. The hero will infiltrate the underworld and fight against hordes of undead and demons, with the power of transformation into mythical creatures with supernatural death. I bought the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) in 1992, I knew Altered Beast was still on sell, but I never bought it as there were far more superior games at that time. It looked old and playing it now, it is a very old type beat 'em up game. It does look easy but it was quite tricky, as it is one of those games where you have to find the right spot and attack on your enemies and final boss fights, if you want to finish this game without loosing a life. It's without a doubt a classic videogame, one of the earliest and first games for the Sega Megadrive (Genesis), but gameplay is ok, not great.
