Psalm 40 Waiting Patiently on the LORD

Have you heard the old saying that patience is a virtue? Most of us have and most of us have had someone tell it to us when we were being impatient ;-). Patience is not an inborn trait, it is a learned skill and only learned by the wise and and obstinate. It is one thing to be patient and to learn patience while we wait for that which we desire and find desirable. But what do we do when we find ourselves in the midst of troubles trials and tribulations and find ourselves with no recourse but to wait upon the LORD and to do that patiently. Paul tells us in the book of 2nd Corinthians 5:7 that we “walk by faith and not by sight”. If you have ever wondered what that looked like, “waiting patiently on the LORD” is one of the ways in which we do that. During trials temptations and sufferings we are inclined to find the nearest escape route and will beg God to show us the exit immediatly. This is what we do when we walk by sight. As we learn to walk by faith we begin to look to and fix our gaze upon our God and we begin to understand that the trials and temptations, the storms and roadblocks of life are tools in the Master’s hand to mold us and conform us to the Image of His son Jesus Christ.
