Swanage Railway - 'Winter Warm Up' 06/01/2024

Another blustery day in the Isle of Purbeck would welcome the 'Winter Warm Up' on the Swanage Railway, with four locomotives in action on the Dorset branch line. Taking place over the weekend of January 6th-7th, the event would see an even split of steam and diesel traction operating both passenger services and a demonstration ballast freight set. Steam traction would be provided by T3 Class - 563 and 34028 "Eddystone"; the latter recently completing a season on 'The Polar Express' festive service. The T3 has also undergone significant engineering work through the autumn months, with revisions to its steam circuit in an effort to improve its performance characteristics. Diesel duties would be shared by the resident pair of Class 33s, D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" and 33111. All four would be in service on both days of the event, with each making appearances on both passenger services and the demonstration freight set. The event would mark the first time in over 75 years, that 563 has hauled freight.
