So let me tell you about my Morning Moka pot brew today: I used 15g beans (3 cup moka) that were some pretty nasty commodity beans that someone bought for me recently - but i'd still rather drink them than waste them. For prep, I never use pre-heated water, I just give the grounds several solid taps one in the funnel, so make sure they are settled enough, and are naturally more compact. I do sometimes put an aeropress filter in the top, if I find the brew to be good overall, but just a too bit too harsh. the filter paper removes some of the fines, therefore some extra bitterness. I make a faux espresso, so a very short measure of liquid out - stopping under the internal v shape of the spout. I then add about 100ml of steamed milk to make a small, strong milk drink. I find that I just don't like the taste of Moka coffee make the 'usual' way i.e. by pulling more liquid into the pot. Now tbh, I do prefer actual espresso to make milk drinks with, but I like the Moka coffee almost as much, and it is just less hassle, easier cleanup etc, it has pretty much become my main coffee making tool now. (apart from when I fancy a larger coffee, when I tend to use a Clever Dripper etc). This morning's coffee was slightly harsh, and a bit ashy, thanks to the beans, but still worth slurping down with an audible 'ahhh' afterwards. 6/10 - will adjust the grind size for tomorrow and see if I can get a 7/10 for it.
