In this ASMR style edit, James Hoffmann checks out an obscure Moka Pot-like coffee machine, previously owned by the legend that is David Lynch. Be prepared to feel slight amusement, mixed with feelings of brief boredom as James giggles, grunts, and slurps his way through this edit. I was recently advised that a longer, naturally written youtube video description could help discoverability, hence the Lord of The Rings length narrative here, without using AI. So let me tell you about my Morning Moka pot brew today: I used 15g beans (3 cup moka) that were some pretty nasty commodity beans that someone bought for me recently - but i'd still rather drink them than waste them. For prep, I never use pre-heated water, I just give the grounds several solid taps one in the funnel, so make sure they are settled enough, and are naturally more compact. I do sometimes put an aeropress filter in the top, if I find the brew to be good overall, but just a too bit too harsh. the filter paper removes some of the fines, therefore some extra bitterness. I make a faux espresso, so a very short measure of liquid out - stopping under the internal v shape of the spout. I then add about 100ml of steamed milk to make a small, strong milk drink. I find that I just don't like the taste of Moka coffee make the 'usual' way i.e. by pulling more liquid into the pot. Now tbh, I do prefer actual espresso to make milk drinks with, but I like the Moka coffee almost as much, and it is just less hassle, easier cleanup etc, it has pretty much become my main coffee making tool now. (apart from when I fancy a larger coffee, when I tend to use a Clever Dripper etc). This morning's coffee was slightly harsh, and a bit ashy, thanks to the beans, but still worth slurping down with an audible 'ahhh' afterwards. 6/10 - will adjust the grind size for tomorrow and see if I can get a 7/10 for it.
