2021 Napa Valley Harvest at Shafer Vineyards

Harvest is an exciting, fast-paced moment in our year. We only get to pick the grapes once and you have to get it right. In this quick behind-the-scenes video you'll see Doug Shafer, winery president, Elias Fernandez, winemaker, and our incredible team all pitching in to capture the amazing beauty in the vineyards and transform it into elegance, opulence, and beauty in the bottle. You'll see Doug and Elias in the vineyard tasting the fruit to see if it's ready to harvest. Then they take samples into the lab where they test the juice for elements like sugar level and pH. On the day Doug and Elias determine the fruit is ready, then we're fortunate to have a team of skilled, talented professional pick the fruit and bring it to our crushpad. On the crushpad our teams sorts the fruit, inspecting it, and removing anything that doesn't belong in a fermentation tank. After the fruit is de-stemmed, the berries fly through our optical sorter that further separates the ideal fruit from the so-so fruit. Then the fruit is crushed and heads to the fermentation tank where over the next few days it becomes gorgeous wine. We feel enormous gratitude that the 2021 growing season has given us a harvest that is already producing young wines with delicious aromas, incredible color, and flavors that are radiant, lively, and decadent. We think you'll find a lot to love when the 2021 Shafer wines become available in a few years!
