Resource Guarding in Dogs - Aggression Series Video 2

Resource Guarding (AKA food protection) in dogs. Resource Guarding is a fairly common type of aggression that can range from mild to VERY serious. Commonly, Resource Guarding is when a dog "defends" something in her possession (a toy, food, something they've stolen, etc.) but it can also involve guarding space and specific people. In very serious cases, dogs will even guard from a distance. Meaning they are not in possession of the item but will guard it from feet away or even from across the room. There is a strong genetic component to Resource Guarding, meaning it is rarely caused by humans or the environment. Also - playing in your dog's food dish DOES NOT help to prevent Resource Guarding .... so for heaven's sake ... stop doing that!
