This video focuses on the occupational hazards associated with chemical handling activities during boiler operation in a Biodiesel Pilot Plant. Particular attention is given to risks arising from boiler water treatment and chemical dosing processes, where workers may be exposed to corrosive and hazardous substances. A systematic risk assessment was conducted using Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), and Bow-Tie Analysis. These methodologies were applied to identify potential hazards such as chemical spills, splashes, inhalation exposure, equipment malfunction, and human error during chemical storage, transfer, and dosing operations. The video also outlines practical risk control measures based on the Hierarchy of Controls, including elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). All proposed measures aim to reduce risks to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and ensure compliance with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia, ISO 45001, and relevant international safety standards. Overall, this presentation highlights the importance of effective chemical safety management in boiler operations to protect workers, prevent incidents, and maintain safe and reliable plant performance.
