88 Temples Shikoku, Japan: Temple 1-40

In March 2020 we set off to hike 88 Temple Pilgrimage of Shikoku in Japan. This is a journey on foot taking you through the four prefectures of Shikoku. Tokushima (Temple 1-23) is the awakening. Kochi (Temple 24-39) is considered ascetic training. Ehime (Temple 40-66) is enlightenment and Kagawa (Temple 67-88) is considered enlightenment.By the time we reached Temple 40 we had to leave Japan urgently due to the coronavirus pandemic as the flights back home to Hawaii were about to be stopped. We plan to go back and finish the walk once the world has healed. Thank you to the people of Shikoku for your kindness and generosity. We thoroughly enjoyed the first half of this epic journey.
