How to Replace Your Trailer Brakes – Step-by-Step Tutorial In this video, we’ll show you how to replace your trailer brakes with ease! Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to trailer maintenance, this step-by-step guide will help you tackle the job like an expert. We’ll cover everything from removing the old brakes to installing and adjusting the new set, ensuring your trailer is road-ready and safe. To replace trailer brakes begin by removing the tire and wheel assembly along with the hub. Once the electric brake is exposed, cut the two wires behind the brake that connect it to the axle. Then unbolt the nuts that fasten the brake onto the brake flange. Once the brake is loose from the axle, remove the entire assembly from the axle itself. To install an electric trailer brake start by ensuring you have the correct sided brake for the side of the trailer it's being mounted on. The brake's actuating arm should be on the front half of the brake facing the front of the trailer. This allows the magnet to bite the inner hub and pull the arm expanding the brake. Start by fastening down the nuts that hold the brake to the axle. Be careful nut to pinch the wires between the brake and the brake flange on the axle. Once the brake is bolted to the axle, wire the brake to the axle. The brake will also need conjoined with the trailers harness if located on the driver side. With these brake wires they are not polarized so it does not matter which wire is the power or which is ground. Once the brake is correctly wired up to the axle the install of the brake is complete. Re-install the hub and adjust the brakes if they are not self adjusting.
