Agriculture, energy production, living, natural ecosystems – do we even have enough space for all our needs? In her Talk at TEDxFreiburg 2021, Jana Kalmbach shares the idea of Agrivoltaics. This new and surprisingly simple idea adresses conflict for land resources by promoting dual land use: agriculture and electricity production via photovoltaic (PV). Jana Kalmbach is a research assistant at Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, working in the group ‘agrivoltaics’ on sustainable solutions for a fossil-fuel free agriculture and renewable energy supply. She is also studying Liberal Arts and Sciences majoring in Earth and Environmental Sciences (B.Sc.) in Freiburg, Germany.
