We took our CAT BACKPACKING in COLOMBIA for 20 MILES!

Graham (best cat ever?) has hiked tons without a leash, but now that he can come backpacking, our world is opening to new possibilities! Our cat and dog joined us on a backpacking trip up a Colombian mountain, and then we all slept in our two person tent. On the way up we suffered a near disaster. A torrential downpour at high altitude stopped us in our shivering tracks. We had to build a temporary shelter and huddle together for warmth as lightning crashed overhead! Truly the scariest thing that has ever happened to us while backpacking... This mountain range, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, is the tallest mountain range closest to the ocean in the world and also it's home to Colombia's tallest mountain and some glaciers! For the 20 miles we carried our survival supplies, and sometimes also our 10lb cat. We had an awesome time backpacking and can’t wait to take Graham and Sombrita on longer trips around South America.
