Dr. Zaghi is a highly trained ENT sleep specialist with expert training in oral soft tissue surgery. He is an invited lecturer to teach functional frenuloplasty procedure to other providers. Here the scissors and suture technique for functional frenuloplasty is demonstrated. Scalpel and/or scissors usually causes less thermal tissue damage than laser and allows for the placement of sutures to promote healing by primary intention. The goal of surgery in Dr. Zaghi's hands is to do a complete release the first time around such that revision would not be necessary. There is a limitation on how deep you can go with the laser technique, so often times there is an incomplete release that does not address submucosal posterior tongue-tie. Dr. Zaghi is highly active in clinical research to promote optimal outcomes after surgery, as well as to study the effect of tethered oral tissues on maxillofacial development, breathing, swallowing, and sleep functioning.
