Good marketing can make the difference between barely making it and flourishing in your markets. Social media especially is an affordable, easy way for farmers to market their farm. Some farmers balk at the task of marketing via social media. The challenges of self-promotion and the fear of expensive tools keeps them from using social media. But, Nick says, neither of those challenges needs to keep farmers from taking advantage of social media. 1. Promotion - If people have followed you or signed up for an email list, they’ve declared that they want to hear what you have to say. They have the option to leave any time they want, but most people won’t. They want to hear your story and learn more about your farm. So let them! 2. Cost - Social media is the easiest marketing tool and can be done for free using apps like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. These days, most farmers carry everything they need in their smartphone.
