Dr. Savalia examines our tendency to construct rigid hypotheses--both in life and in the lab--to the point that unexpected outcomes become momentous detours. Her talk explores the novelty and value in investigating uncharted territories Krupa is a first-generation American, born and raised in New Jersey. She received her bachelors in biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California in 2006. After graduation, Krupa returned to the east coast to work in the Kessler Foundation clinical research laboratories—which piqued her interest in a career that bridges the gap between patient care and scientific innovation. In 2009, Krupa enrolled in the M.D./Ph.D. Scholars Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She received her Ph.D. in cellular and integrative physiology in 2014 and will graduate from medical school in May 2016. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
