Abandoned Railway Tunnel Frozen In Time! Walking The High Hat Tunnel

Today we visit the beautiful town of Ventnor situated on the most westerly part of the stunning Isle Of Wight to check out a forgotten relic of the islands rich railway past. The Ventnor railway tunnel, also known as St Lawrence Tunnel, is a disused tunnel forming part of the old Ventnor West branch line which ran beneath St. Boniface Down, connecting Ventnor to St. Lawrence. Opening in 1866 the tunnel would go on to serve the branch line until the Line itself was closed in 1952. The is now disused but is still accessible at the south portal with water pipes serving Ventnor now routed through the tunnel. The abandoned relic of the railways is frozen in time highlighting the once rich railway history this little island once had and a must see when if you get the chance..
