The route begins slightly East of Loweswater where I parked next to a red phone box, alternatively you can park at the Kirkstile Inn. This loop clocks in at around 13 miles and begins with a hearty ascent of Mellbreak.. The route then descends the west side of Mellbreak where you are faced with Hen Comb directly ahead.. The path here is not obvious although I found making my way to the south of a hill made for a relatively easy ascent... The route once again descends to the west of the hill where you will spot the distinct path towards Gavel fell and the route from there is clearly trodden..
