As this season ends, traders are packing up and returning to their settlements. In recent years, the business has grown increasingly difficult due to shorter winters, changing weather patterns, and shifting consumer habits, including online shopping. Many traders had hoped this winter would bring better sales, but reports from across India suggest otherwise. While a few markets saw modest improvement, overall sales remained below expectations. To understand the situation, we spoke with Mr. Sonam Topgyal, President of the Tibetan Refugee Traders’ Association (TRTA), about this year’s business, key challenges, and the future of the winter sweater trade.
