Why do all humans seem to fall short morally? Why do guilt, shame, and moral conflict appear across every culture and era? In this video, we explore the concept of sin through a powerful interdisciplinary lens—combining evolutionary psychology, sociology, cognitive biases, neuroscience, and Christian theology. Evolutionary psychology suggests that humans are naturally inclined toward self-preservation and in-group favoritism, while sociology highlights how social norms shape our moral behavior. Cognitive biases like confirmation bias and loss aversion distort our judgment, and neuroscience reveals how the brain balances emotion and reason during moral decision-making. Brain regions such as the amygdala and prefrontal cortex play critical roles in guilt, shame, empathy, and moral reasoning. From a Christian theological perspective, sin is not merely breaking rules—it is a relational rupture with God, rooted in humanity’s fallen nature since Adam. Scripture teaches that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), yet also offers hope through grace, redemption, and restoration in Jesus Christ. By integrating science and theology, this exploration offers a deeper understanding of the human condition—and a meaningful path toward healing, reconciliation, and transformation.
