Report by MBN News - July 23, 2013 https://www.mbn.co.kr/news/economy/14... Translation: Today is Joongbok. Controversy over Boshintang (dog meat soup) always gets hotly debated every summer during "Boknal"(three dog days of summer). But how are these dogs being raised and slaughtered? These might be isolated cases but the problem is very serious. Tae-Il Kim reports the graphic scene of dog meat industry. This is Moran market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do. Shops selling dogs for meat are lined along the sidewalk. Dogs are all tangled in small and narrow wire cages. Interview: Dog meat shop butcher These are about 200,000 Korean won (USD $185) each. If you want them slaughtered and have it delivered we can do that. How are these dogs raised and slaughtered? A dog falls down as butcher shocks it with electricity. Butcher shocks the dog lying on ground again and again. Other dogs are slaughtered with even more cruel methods. This time we are at a dog farm. Mother dog and litter of puppies are in a wire cage and right next to them is rotten food waste used to feed them. Dogs raised in this condition are slaughtered, boiled in hot water and sold to be made into dog meat soup. Interview: So-Yeon Park / Director of Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth(CARE) The problem is that the whole process - breeding, transport, slaughter and distribution - is very inhumane and unsanitary.
