Sprocket and Cooper are both high energy Springer Spaniels. They were both nearly impossible to walk on a leash and Cooper would bolt if given the chance. Cooper has already been through training with a different trainer but did not retain his good manners for long after returning home. During our first training session we worked on proper tools (food, prong collar, ecollar) and techniques to form a new communication with their human family. We reformed their walk so the kids can safety handle them and practiced some of the new commands that will give both dogs more structure in and outside of the home. The videos below were taken during our first 90 minute training session. The first clip is what a walk used to look like with both dogs on flat collars. The second clip is after about 30 minutes of training using high-quality prong and ecollars. Both of these tools allow for safe handling for dogs and owners (and yes, even children of a reasonable age). 😊 You do not need to physically exhaust your dog for them to behave. Calming exercises and focus training is just as important as physical activity. A dog that is always in GO is not a well-balanced dog and can lead to excess anxiety. Creating structure and fair leadership will allow even the most high energy dogs to relax and learn how to be calm on command as well as still having that goofy crazy side when the time is right. 😉 These kids did such a great job learning all about the training tools and techniques along side their parents. They seemed pretty excited to continue practicing now that they can walk their dogs instead of the dogs walking them!
