Hey guys, today we're taking you on an incredible journey to Suriname - country number 113! This adventure started at 3 AM with a shuttle ride to the border, followed by a 30-minute ferry crossing from Guyana. What we discovered in this South American gem absolutely blew our minds! From meeting fellow Swiss travelers on the ferry to learning about the fascinating history of the Maroons - African slaves who escaped to the jungle and still maintain their original tribal languages and customs today - Suriname is a cultural melting pot like no other. We stayed at the amazing Max Garden and Pool right in the heart of Paramaribo - such a beautiful apartment with spacious rooms, a fully stocked kitchen, and that refreshing pool we definitely needed in the hot humid weather! If you're planning a trip to Suriname, you can book it here 👉https://growingupwithoutborderslife.c... We explored the beautiful capital city of Paramaribo with its stunning Dutch colonial architecture that looks straight out of New Orleans, complete with gorgeous balconies and colorful buildings. The diversity here is incredible - you'll find Indonesian food trucks next to Chinese restaurants, mosques standing beside synagogues, and people speaking Dutch, English, and various tribal languages. We sampled amazing local cuisine, cooled off in the pool during the hot humid weather, and discovered that 90% of this country is covered in pristine rainforest! One of the most surprising things? Almost nowhere accepts international Visa credit cards - only local Surinamese cards work, so come prepared with cash! We also visited the local market, tried some mystery fruits from our accommodation's garden, and learned about the complex colonial history that shaped this unique nation. 0:07 - Early morning border crossing from Guyana 2:31 - Learning about Maroon history and culture 4:00 - Bus drama and seating issues 6:28 - Arriving in Paramaribo, our accommodation tour 7:57 - Credit card problems and Indonesian dinner 9:03 - Morning routine and local fruits 12:18 - Fort Zeelandia and Suriname's colonial history 15:37 - Walking through beautiful Paramaribo 17:15 - Local market and unique products 19:01 - Mosque and synagogue side by side 20:31 - Reality of travel life and planning challenges Suriname gained independence from the Netherlands only in 1975, which explains why Dutch influence is still so strong here. The literacy rate is an impressive 96%, and the blend of African, Indonesian, Chinese, Indian, and European cultures creates something truly special. Next up, we're heading to Trinidad and Tobago with another early morning departure at 12:30 AM! Enjoy the video!! #Suriname #Paramaribo #SouthAmerica
