Hi and Salaam, friends! It’s Bilal, Shaeeda and the crew back in one of our favorite cities, New Orleans, for our second Essence Fest. We first soaked in the magic of #EssenceFest in 2023, and we couldn’t wait to bring the kids back for round two. Spoiler alert: it was even better this time! From Jummah prayers to late-night fireworks, join us for three unforgettable days of culture, music, and mouth-watering eats. We kicked things off the best way we know how—attending Jummah at Masjidur Rahim. There’s something so grounding about gathering with the local Muslim community right before diving into festival fun. With our spirits lifted, we headed straight to Little Dizzy’s for that legendary fried chicken, red beans, and buttery cornbread. (Yes, the kids cleaned their plates!) We closed the night on the banks of the Mississippi, eyes glowing under a spectacular 4 th of July fireworks show. Picture mini-me “oohs” and “aahs” echoing against the riverfront—pure magic. Festival day! The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center was buzzing with Black excellence, creativity, and empowerment. Yusuf tried his hand at a drum circle, little Ayaan got his face painted, and we all danced to live brass-band beats. We even bumped into a few of you—thanks for the hugs and selfies! The kids’ highlight? Collecting free swag and tasting praline samples at the vendor village. Ours? Sitting in on a panel celebrating Muslim voices in entertainment Phones were down, hearts were full: we soaked in the main-stage concert as a family (sorry, no spoilers in this vlog… yet!). Let’s just say the lineup had something for every generation, and watching the kids belt out songs we grew up on was surreal. You’ll catch our full concert reactions in a separate video—stay New Orleans and great food go hand in hand, and we didn’t hold back. We devoured garlic-butter chargrilled oysters at Morrow’s, sweet-heat pralines from Loretta’s, and—of course—pillow-soft beignets at Café du Monde. The kids crowned the beignets “best breakfast ever,” powdered-sugar smiles to prove it! 💬 Comment below: Have you been to Essence Fest or New Orleans?
