In this video, Bounty Archive creates a wedding guest book as a gift for dear friends. This is my first video since traveling to Japan to study my art with a master bookbinder. I couldn't wait to try out some of my new techniques. Read more about the project here: https://www.bountyarchive.com/archive... I'm delighted with how I translated this design from my head into the final book. The work features 160 pages of off-white paper for wedding guests to sign. A crisp window on the front cover allows for a peek at the special handmade Spanish marbled paper within. I am not sure what you call the style of stitch that I use to sew the signatures together in this video. It's similar to a French link, except the threads run parallel to each other instead of crossing. If anyone knows the name of this stitch, please share it in the comments! This book will be at the door during my friends' wedding, and guests are encouraged to write a note to the couple. With this use in mind, it was important to bind the book such that it lays flat on the table under its own weight. One of the trickiest parts of this book was hammering the spine into a uniform mushroom shape. In this step I was successful, but the result could have been more symmetrical. This is something I am excited to improve in future book projects. At various stages, I use my homemade book press to apply pressure and squeeze the book into a shape. All of my books are created on location in my apartment in New York City. I hope that you enjoy the sights, sounds, and general sensations evoked by this ASMR video, to which I've added no music. While this is not intended to be a tutorial, you may feel inspired and/or challenged to use some of the featured techniques to make something functional and beautiful. I hope this is the case. If you have questions about this process, materials, or bookbinding, just ask me in the comments. I read them all, and I try to reply as soon as possible.
