One of my first videos - yes it's long and pretty much recorded in real time. Skip ahead if you've done this before. If not, I take it step by step and you'll see how it's done. This procedure is pretty much the same on most Viragos. Follow your service manual for procedures, tools, torque specs and valve clearances. Great thing about the valve design is that there are no shims so the adjustment requires simple tools, some time and patience. Taking a few bits off to get access to the covers is necessary. If you are doing a valve adjustment after a full or top rebuild, once the valve adjustment is done, rotate the engine 360 degrees by hand before starting. Also, for final torque on the lock nuts, use the boxed (closed) end of your wrench to avoid or limit any chance of the wrench slipping off and rounding the lock nut. Having a shop do this is usually in the $200 - $300 range (or more). Since I had my badly behaving carburettors out, this was a perfect time to do this. At this time, it's always a good idea to replace the o-rings in the covers. Doing this yourself builds confidence and saves you a lot of money if you plan on restoring and/or keeping the bike a while.
