Preston Duffee hoping to be the next American Idol; South Carolina American Idol contestant

Preston Duffee is on his way to becoming the next American Idol. Darlington county Coroner J Todd Hardee is cheering for him. "He’s just a good kid. His sister is such a wonderful person. They are salt of the earth, fine, fine people," Hardee said. Before the celebrity judges and the golden ticket, Duffee and his sister went through the unexpected, the loss of their mother. Hardee was called to the home that night and met Duffee for the first time. "It was just a bad situation. I would say ‘now Preston, tell me who this person is.’ and he’d say ‘yes sir’, ‘no sir’, ‘yes sir, yes sir’, ‘can I get you anything?” and I said this kid, his mom has passed away, but she has really done a job with these two kids," Hardee said. Hardee continued to keep up with Duffee after that night, eventually learning about his musical talent. "It became known to me that Preston was somewhat of a musician. I happen to hear him one time and I thought ‘golly this kid is the real deal,'" he said. So it didn't come as much of a shock when Hardee turned on his TV and saw Duffee.
