Polling units across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) opened today as Abuja residents voted to elect new chairmen and councillors. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, several challenges emerged, including low voter turnout in some urban areas such as Bwari and AMAC, as well as an incident of ballot snatching at the A.U Suleman II polling unit in Abaji, which led to a brief halt in voting. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deployed 4,345 BVAS machines to expedite accreditation, but logistical challenges such as confusion over new polling unit locations persisted.
